612 The Era of Big Data: What Does it Mean for a Safety Professional?


Summary: Everywhere you read, you are seeing the term BIG DATA and/or THE ERA OF BIG DATA. Big data is the term for a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using traditional data processing applications. As technology advances and more and more information can be reported and captured through our various systems, this is a critical time for the safety profession to leverage this information and improve their standing in their organizations. Big data may be as important to business – and the safety professional - as the Internet has become. Why? More data may lead to more accurate analyses.
