Do I need to be an ASSE member to utilize the Body of Knowledge?
No, you do not need to be an ASSE member to use the Body of Knowledge. Some resources are locked and only ASSE members may access them. To have full access to every single document, you can find out more about becoming a member by visiting asse.org.

What is the Body of Knowledge?
The Body of Knowledge is a community of resources shared between safety professionals created by American Society of Safety Engineers. Articles, checklists, videos and other materials are available on topic areas associated with ASSE’s Practice Specialties and Safety Professionals Handbook.

How do I register for the Body of Knowledge?
To register and gain access to the Body of Knowledge, visit www.safetybok.org/members/account, enter a valid e-mail address and create a password.Your password is private and ASSE will not have access to it. If you are also a member of ASSE, you must use your member e-mail on file with ASSE as well as your member number to sign up. Once you have completed the required information, click the "submit" button. You will receive an e-mail notification shortly.

I’m logged in but can’t view all the articles. Why?
The BOK has 2 different levels of access: Registered User and Members Only. A registered user cannot view all resources. You must be an ASSE Member to register under Members Only access. If you are an ASSE Member and are having trouble viewing resources, please contact us at www.safetybok.org/contact.

Do I have to pay for this membership? Is there any obligations?
The Body of Knowledge is free to use and there are no obligations. The intended use of the BOK is provide a database of resources safety professionals can access easily.

What is the difference between “Member” and “Registered User”?
Users that have signed up as a "Member" have unrestricted to access to every resource on the Body of Knowledge; including ASSE publications and other resources. "Registered Users" have limited access to some articles and files.

How do I become an ASSE member?
There are two ways to apply for an ASSE membership. Apply online at www.asse.org/membership/becomeamember.php or you may fax/mail in your application. Click here to download a membership application. You do NOT need to be an ASSE member to use the Body of Knowledge.

Adding Resources
How do I upload a file?
Users may upload files clicking the "Add a Resource" link at the top right of the page or by visiting www.safetybok.org/resources/upload. All uploads are then checked and approved by an ASSE safety professional before it is available to the public.

Do I need permission to upload files?
No – you do not need permission to upload files if the materials are your own work. If the materials are not your own work then you would need to notify ASSE via the submission that the materials are not your own and that ASSE would need to approach the original author(s) for final permission to post. During the submission process you are asked to check a box addressing copyright and permission.

What file types can be uploaded?
A variety of file types can be uploaded to the BOK. These include but are not limited to: Word Documents, PDFs, Powerpoint Presentations, MP3 files, URLs, Excel Documents, and HTML. At this time videos cannot be uploaded but may be embedded via YouTube, Vimeo or any other video sharing website.
