Summary: The purpose of this article is to give the reader a flavor for the economic potential of current applications and an insight to the potential of future developments such as: •Short-Term Applications (fewer than five years): paints, remediation of environmental pollutants, fuel cell components, flat panel displays and batteries. •Long-Term Applications (five years and longer): carbon nanotube composites, lubricants, nanoscale-fabricated magnetic devices, medical implants, cell­ and gene-specific pharmacological methods and precise cancer chemotherapy delivery systems.
