Wildfires Make Hard Work for Firefighters & Local Officials

Summary: Late 2005 and nearly all of 2006 have been challenging and sometimes devastating for firefighters and other emergency personnel who have responded to large wildfires in California, Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and other locations throughout the U.S. Wildfire activity erupted across parts of the central U.S. during December 2005, as large fires developed in Oklahoma, Texas and the southern Plains. Many of these fires continued to burn into early 2006. As of January 9, more than 400,000 acres had burned across the southern Plains.

What is the BOK?

The Body of Knowledge project is dedicated to creating a living reference that represents the collective knowledge of the Safety, Health and Environmental profession. While the preliminary work has begun, there is still more to do. The purpose of this website is to introduce subject areas that will eventually be part of the Body of Knowledge, and to gather feedback on the future direction, and ongoing assessment of what needs to be completed.
